WILSON, N.C. – The Chowan University football team closed out the 2025 season with a 20–6 victory over the Barton Bulldogs on Saturday evening, earning the program's first-ever win against Barton. The Hawks got on the board first with a field goal and continued to capitalize on Barton's miscues, steadily building offensive momentum to secure the victory. Chowan finishes the season on a high note with an overall record of 4–7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan and Barton traded four drives to open the game as Antwone Godley made a big play on Barton's second drive of the first quarter, intercepting a pass to halt the Bulldogs' momentum. Shortly after, Jack Beylo put the first points on the board for the Hawks with a 23-yard field goal at 2:06 in the first quarter, giving Chowan the lead heading into the second. Barton answered with a 33-yard field goal four minutes into the second quarter to tie the game at 3–3, then added another field goal 2 minutes before halftime to take a 6–3 advantage into the break.
Chowan came out strong in the third quarter, scoring on the opening drive as Romeo Felton broke free for an 18-yard rushing touchdown at 12:57. Beylo connected on the PAT to put the Hawks ahead 10–6. Godley made his second interception of the game on Barton's second drive of the third quarter at 7:49, giving Chowan great field position and momentum. The teams traded four more possessions in the period, but the score held entering the fourth.
The Hawks extended their lead early in the final quarter, with Felton punching in his second touchdown of the night on a 6-yard run at 12:57. Another successful PAT from Beylo made it 17–6. After another exchange of drives, Beylo added a field goal at 7:23 to push the advantage to 20–6. Chowan would take one more possession and Barton two more, but neither team found the end zone again, sealing the 20–6 victory for the Hawks.

Offense:
NyJal "Jelly" Johnson completed 16 of 29 passes for 150 yards, with his longest completion going for 25 yards.
Malique Frazier and Luke Krall each hauled in 4 receptions, with Frazier totaling 42 yards and a long of 18, while Krall added 41 yards, including a long of 25. Dominic Haney also had 4 receptions for 37 yards, with a long of 12. Dezmond Randolph caught 2 passes for 13 yards, Jakobe Lane added a 10-yard reception, and Romeo Felton contributed a single reception for 7 yards.
Felton had a career night, carrying the ball 16 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns, including a long of 28 yards. Johnson added 12 rushes for 67 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per carry, while Khamani Barnes ran 4 times for 8 yards.
Defense:
Omari Kinsler led the Hawks with 7 tackles, including 5 solo stops, anchoring the defense with his consistent performance. Antwone Godley also made a major impact, recording 5 total tackles, including a tackle for loss, while excelling in pass defense with 2 interceptions for 22 return yards. Damarcus Carroll added 5 tackles and a TFL of his own, while Isaiah Fulton, Jamal Browning, and Darian Whitaker each tallied 4 total tackles, with Browning adding a quarterback hurry. Kinsler contributed 2 pass breakups to round out the defensive effort.
Special Teams:
Jack Beylo handled the kicking duties for the Hawks, making 2 of 4 field-goal attempts with a long of 32 yards, and recording 5 kickoffs totaling 301 yards, including one touchback. Laurence Wallace punted 3 times for 111 yards, averaging 37.0 yards per punt with a long of 40.
On returns, Tayshwan Benson led the way with a 36-yard kickoff return, while Jakobe Lane added a 13-yard return. Luke Krall contributed on punt returns, bringing back one for 15 yards.
