MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University women's soccer team outscored UNC Pembroke to pull out the win on Tuesday evening. The Hawks showcased a strong defensive performance, keeping the Braves off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes. With the win, Chowan improves to 6-6-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conference play, while UNC Pembroke holds the same mark after the matchup.

Chowan struck first in the match, capitalizing on a UNC Pembroke foul just beyond midfield. Abigail Simon delivered a free kick into the box, where Zuhailee Rivera redirected it to the center. Lily Harrison was waiting and sent it past the Braves keeper to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage.
The Hawks defense held firm for the remainder of the contest, turning away 18 UNC Pembroke shot attempts and keeping the Braves out of scoring position. Kylee Smith anchored the effort in goal, playing the full 90 minutes and recording nine saves to secure the shutout victory.
