MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University Volleyball team hosted their second invitational in as many weeks on Friday night. The Hawks opened play in the tournament with a 3-1 win over Virginia Union University and concluded the evening with a 3-0 loss to Lander. Chowan moved to 2-3 after Friday's tournament.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Match 1 - Chowan tallied 40 team kills in the win, with eight different Hawks putting down kills. Alexa Wasil paced the Hawks offensive attack with 9 kills while teammate Lorelai Hill posted 8 kills. Madison Armstrong, Jada Caruthers, and Lyniah Lee each tallied 4 kills in the win. Armstrong also had 4 service aces and Anna Holcombe had 7 kills, 14 digs, and 6 service aces. Virginia Union was paced by Alana Simmons with a match-high 11 kills.

Match 2 -  Chowan had a total of 21 kills in their second match of the day. Wasil led with 8 and Hill with 5 kills. Holcombe and Hill each recorded 2 aces, with Caruthers adding 1. Defensively, Alexa Wasil tallied 3 blocks, supported by Caruthers with 2 and Collier with 1. Sydney Ginaitt directed the offense with 12 assists, followed by Liggeri with 7. Rodriguez anchored the back row with 11 digs, while Holcombe contributed 6 and Jaydn Brown added 4.

UP NEXT

Chowan continues play with day two of the invitational on Saturday, September 14th. The Hawks will take on Auburn-Montgomery at 9:00am and close the tournament out with Virginia Union again at 1:00pm. Virginia Union and Lander will play the 11:00am match.
