WILSON, N.C. – The Chowan Football team turned the ball over three times in the opening quarter of the contest allowing Barton to race out to a lead and never looked back in the 2023 season opener on the road.

Barton used three turnovers to jump out to a 14-0 lead in the opening quarter with two interceptions and a strip-sack for a touchdown.
The Bulldogs tacked on 10 points in the second quarter to lead 24-0 at the intermission. Chowan managed 67 yards of total offense in the first half.
The Hawks posted four drives over 25+ yards in the contest including four straight three-and-outs. Chowan's offense mustered 129 yards of total offense going 1-11 on third downs.
Barton rushed for 338 yards on 44 carries.
NOTABLES
Dwayne Smith and Jordan Brown registered double-digit tackles. Smith tallied 11 tackles and one sack in the contest. Brown collected 10 tackles.
Ireal Hills caught four passes for 25 yards. Rashad McKee collected 102 yards in the air and 12 yards on the ground. Divon Woods posted 12 yards rushing.
The loss marks the first time since Sep. 20, 2014 that the Hawks were shutout, 59-0 against N.C. A&T.
