MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Lacrosse team dropped their season opener at home against Methodist on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.

Grace Taylor and Victoria Brown collected a hat-trick each with three goals. Cameryn Barrow posted two goals and one assist, while Naila Smith tallied one goal and one assist. Rebekah Lucas and Sarai Reyes-Roman added one assist each.
Trinity Walker notched six caused turnovers and eight ground balls to lead the defense. Patricia Meador tallied nine saves, while Ariel Johnson had seven saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Chowan started fast scoring two quick goals. Grace Taylor found the back of the net before Cameryn Barrow found Naila Smith for a 2-0 lead. Taylor would score her second goal of the frame on the man-up situation to lead 3-1.
Methodist scored three goals to close out the opening quarter to lead 4-3.
Second Quarter:
The Monarchs extended their lead to 6-3 before Sarai Reyes-Roman found Victoria Brown to cut into the deficit. Methodist answered with four goals before Cameryn Barrow scored unassisted.
Methodist would lead 13-5 at the end of the first half.
Third Quarter:
Following a foul, Rebekah Lucas found Victoria Brown in the 8-meter area for a goal. Grace Taylor would collect her hat-trick goal to cut the deficit to 14-7.
Methodist found the back of the net twice to end the quarter to lead 16-7.
Fourth Quarter:
Cameryn Barrow started the scoring for the Hawks in the quarter with an unassisted goal. As time was winding down, Naila Smith controlled the draw control and found Victoria Brown for a goal before time expired.
UP NEXT
Chowan will take some time to regroup before hitting the road to take on Anderson in non-conference action on Saturday, February 25. Opening draw control is slated for 1pm.
