HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
After Chowan was forced to punt on their opening drive, Lincoln used a 10-play 80-yard drive to take a 7-0 lead.
The Hawks struggled to move the ball in the first quarter as each of the next three drives ended in punts.
Second Quarter:
After the opening drive ended in a turnover on downs, the Chowan defense picked up the slack as Jakob Streeter forced a fumble allowing Montre Moore to pick up the fumble and return it for a scoop-and-score to even the score after the Patric Talbot point after attempt.
On the ensuing kick-off the return was muffed and recovered by Nic Wilson at the Lincoln 34. Caleb Pierce found Laurence King for a 12-yard reception before finding King again for a seven-yard touchdown pass to put the Hawks up 13-7.
Late in the half, Raydarius Freeman and Jakob Streeter recorded a sack each to stall the Lincoln drive. Jamae Blank sent the Hawks into the locker room with a sack to end the half.
Third Quarter:
Both defenses played strong as neither team was able to mount a drive in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
On the second play of the quarter, Rashad McKee found EJ Gatling for 26 yards to put the Hawks just outside of the redzone. McKee scampered for 17 yards before the Hawks had to settle for a field goal. Jake Ray, normally a wide receiver, connected from 18-yards out with 9:48 remaining to put the Hawks up 16-7.
Lincoln would march down the field on a long pass play and find the endzone to cut the deficit to 16-14 with 8:11 remaining.
The Lions picked off the Hawks near midfield on the next drive. Lincoln moved the ball into the redzone before a holding penalty and an intentional grounding penalty moved the Lions back to the Chowan 27. Lincoln would go for it on fourth down and 17 instead of attempting the 44-yd attempt.
Nijere Peoples salted away the remaining 2:15 of the contest on the ground picking up 34 yards on three carries.
