Historic Season Comes To An End For Chowan Men's Soccer

YOUNG HARRIS, GA. – The Chowan Men's Soccer spectacular season came to a close in the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 against Nova Southeastern in a 1-0 defeat on Wednesday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Nova Southeastern posted 10 shots compared to the Hawks' five shots.  NSU held the advantage 3-2 in on target attempts.

Charlie Farrar recorded two saves in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

The opening minutes of the contest was physical for both sides as both teams were shown yellow cards.

The Sharks produced the opening shots of the contest as two were blocked and one sailed wide.  Sam Hall posted the first shot for the Hawks missing wide in the 24'.

In the 28', NSU was shown a red card.  James Randall's attempt in the 37' was blocked.

Second Half:

NSU came out of the intermission with pressure posting three shots in the first five minutes as the Sharks were able to find the left top corner off a rebound to lead 1-0 in the 51'.

Sam Hall tallied a shot that led to a corner kick in the 58'.  James Randall had a chance to find the back of the net in the 69' but was turned away.

The Hawks pressed late in the match as Charlie Farrar came into the attacking box from his goalkeeper position.  Farrar sent a volleyed attempt towards the left post looking for the equalizer but was pushed off the post by the keeper in the final seconds of the match.

END OF SEASON

Chowan finished their historic season with the most wins in Division II history, first Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship, NCAA Tournament bid, first NCAA Tournament win, NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.

The program will bid ado to Toby Sims, Sam Hall, and Erik Ruiz as the trio appeared in their final match for the Hawks.
