#20 Chowan Upset By Bears In Regional Showdown

HICKORY, N.C. – The nationally-ranked Chowan Men's Soccer team suffered their first loss in nine matches with a 2-1 overtime loss to regionally-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne on the road on Wednesday afternoon.

Toby Sims collected his 11th goal of the season in the first half.  Charlie Farrar posted four saves in the contest.

Lenoir-Rhyne produced more shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks in the contest.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

First Half:

Lenoir-Rhyne put the Hawks on the back foot early as the second shot in the contest would hit the post.

Charlie Farrar was forced to make two saves in the first 18' of play.  London Williams posted a shot on frame in the 22' but was saved by the Bears' keeper.

LR was called for a foul on a free kick inside the box as a Bears' defender pulled down Toby Sims in the box, granting a penalty.  Sims converted the PK to put the Hawks up 1-0 in the 27'.

Charlie Farrar registered a save before the end of the half.

Second Half:

Lenoir-Rhyne used a set piece to find the equalizer in the 50', 1-1.

Toby Sims nearly made it 2-1 in the 69' as his header would sail just high of the frame.

Neither team was able to find the back of the in the final 20 minutes of regulation.

Overtime:

The defensive frame saw two shots, both by the Bears including the game-winner in the far left post with less than a minute in the first overtime period.

Chowan returns to league play when the Hawks travel to Bristol, Tenn. to take on King in the regular season finale on Sunday, October 31.
