Chowan Eager To Compete At Conference Carolinas Championships

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan Men's and Women's Cross Country teams are eager to compete at the 2020-21 Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championships on Friday held at Frank Liske Park in Concord, N.C.

Admission is FREE for all fans, but all fans must wear a mask and watch the event(s) in a socially-distanced manner by sitting or standing at least six feet from any other non-family member in attendance. Fans are not allowed in the open field at the start/finish line. Please follow the signs that are posted and do not enter any areas where signs/barricades are posted.

CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES

  • Last Season: Chowan finished 12th at the 2019 Conference Carolinas Championship.
  • Lela Knight returns as the top runner for the Hawks in 2020-21.  Knight finished 48th overall last year at the Conference Carolinas Championship.
  • Elizabeth Stokes is second on the team and finished 76th last season.
  • Arina Karbolina, RyLee Roberts and JaCinda Griffin will run for the Hawks.

  • Last Season: Chowan finished 11th at the 2019 Conference Carolinas Championship.
  • The men's team will feature five new runners this season.
  • Ke'Patrique Best and Elijah Hill join the team from the Men's Basketball program.
  • Dawson Cox, Matthew Devlin, and Justin Smith will compete for the Hawks from the Men's Soccer program.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE CAROLINAS

Conference Carolinas has a rich tradition in roots that dates back to its inception on Dec. 6, 1930. The NCAA Division II athletics conference presently has member schools located in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Member institutions for the upcoming 2020-21 athletic year are Barton, Belmont Abbey, Chowan, Converse, Emmanuel, Erskine, King, Lees-McRae, Mount Olive, North Greenville and Southern Wesleyan.

Conference Carolinas will feature 11 members in the 2020-21 academic year before expanding to 13 teams for the 2021-22 academic year with the addition of Francis Marion and UNC Pembroke.
