RICHMOND, VA. – The Chowan Bowling team earned their first win of the season against rival Elizabeth City State on the final day of the CIAA Event II in Baker match play.

INSIDE THE LANES
Chowan started off the event strong with a 138 against Virginia State to take the opening game. Chowan came up just short in game five with a game-high 165. The Trojans took the advantage in the second game to separate the teams.
The Hawks would roll the momentum into their second contest jumping out to a 255-176 lead over Elizabeth City State with Deja King, Shakira Harris, and Jasmine Basnight leading off the attack. Nia Foy and Baylee Laxton anchored the team for the win. Chowan added to their lead taking four of the five games for the 634-520 victory.
CU hung tough with the Northern leading, Bowie State Bulldogs. Chowan would trail by 29 points heading into the final three games. Chowan held tough in the final two games of the contest before falling to the Bulldogs 675-565 in a close tussle.
In the final contest of the event, Baylee Laxton picked up two strikes in the 10th frame to close the gap in game two. Deja King started off a strong effort against Virginia Union in game three with a strike. Jasmine Basnight added a strike before VUU clawed in front with two strikes in the 10th frame to take the game 122-117. Nia Foy recorded a strike along with two more strikes by Laxton in the fourth game.
Deja King and Shakira Harris started the final game strong picking up tough spares. Baylee Laxton continued her strong performance with a strike. Nia Foy closed out the day with a strike to take the final game, 113-100. Virginia Union took the contest 684-624.
The team finished up with a 121.4 average per game.
