MURFREESBORO, N.C. – In the final game of the 2019 season, the Chowan Women's Lacrosse team left everything they had on the field for the seniors as the Hawks came up just short in a 17-16 loss to Newberry in overtime on Wednesday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
The Hawks played their second-ever overtime contest and first since Feb. 19, 2015 against Columbia (S.C.).
Tashana Barnett led the Hawks with a career day scoring the second most goals in program history in a single contest with 10 goals.
Misten White tallied six points posting two goals and four assists. Jordan Nicholson found the back of the net twice and added an assist.
Karly Timmons and Jasmine Latney scored once. Latney and Tahvanee Burton recorded an assist.
Mallory Dunker registered 10 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Newberry would race out to an early 2-0 lead just three minutes into the contest. Tashana Barnett started her scoring spree two minutes later finding the back of the net. Following a Newberry goal, Barnett cut the deficit once again with a goal.
The Wolves extended their advantage to 5-2 and 6-3 after Tashana Barnett found the back of the net on a free position.
Jasmine Latney would tally a goal to keep the Hawks in the contest. Tashana Barnett would close the gap back down to one, 6-5, with a free position goal. Misten White scored after Newberry posted a two goal lead.
Newberry extended their lead to 9-6 before Tashana Barnett scored a free position goal. The Wolves answered with two goals to lead 11-7 late in the half. Barnett found the back of the net off a pass from Misten White to close the gap to 11-8 heading into the half.
Second Half:
The Hawks would come out on fire in the second half scoring four unanswered goals to take the lead 12-11. Tashana Barnett started the scoring with a free position goal. Jordan Nicholson would score off an assist by Misten White before Barnett evened the score after finding the back of the net off a Jasmine Latney assist. Nicholson gave the Hawks a 12-11 lead with an unassisted tally.
Newberry would score less than two minutes later to knot the contest at 12-aside. Tashana Barnett gave the lead back to the Hawks with 18:03 remaining. Thirty seconds later, Newberry found the goal.
The Wolves would take a 15-13 lead with 11 minutes to play in regulation. Misten White closed the gap to 15-14 with a goal off a pass from Jordan Nicholson.
The momentum swung in favor of the Hawks down the stretch as Misten White found Karly Timmons for a goal and White assisted on Tashana Barnett's goal to give the Hawks a 16-15 lead.
With 40 ticks remaining in the half, Newberry would find the equalizer to even the score at 16-all.
Tashana Barnett had a chance before the final buzzer but was saved.
Overtime:
Newberry controlled the opening draw control. Mallory Dunker picked up the deflective save but was unable to retain possession. The Wolves gathered and scored the sudden-victory winner.
