PETERSBURG, Va. –The Chowan Men's and Women's Cross Country teams each finished fifth at the Trojan Cross Country Invitational on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Taking home the title for both Men's and Women's was host Virginia State with a score of 41 and 26 respectively.
Virginia State's Kyera Frank won the field for the women after posting a 21:05.1 while Mike Lagat of Shaw ran a 26:21.1 on the men's side.
Lela Knight pushed forward for Chowan crossing the line with a 22:13.9. Knight finished in fifth overall averaging a 7:09.3 mile.
Elizabeth Stokes recorded a 25:25.6 to place 18th for the Blue and White.
Deja King and
Keyera Wilkerson pushed each other to the finish line to place 24th and 25th respectfully. King ran the course in 27:20.1 while Wilkerson posted a 27:25.9 for the Hawks.
Genesis Oliver and
Maresa Caceres rounded out the scoring for Chowan.
On the men's side,
Jalen Thomas posted a season best after running the 8k in 31:08.2. Thomas averaged a 6:15 minute mile to place 14th overall.
Kevin Taylor covered the course in 32:21.3 while teammate
George Kattan posted a 32:53.5 season best for the Blue and White.
Adi Kaliakperov and
Brendon Sellars rounded out the scoring for the Hawks.

Chowan will travel to Charlotte, N.C. to compete in the Queens University of Charlotte on Friday, September 28. Race is set for 5:00pm.
