VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The Chowan Women's Bowling team was unable to overcome the Panthers in the opening round of the 2018 CIAA Championships in Virginia Beach on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first day of championships consist of Baker play. The team with the best four out of seven games wins the match.
• The Hawks opened the tournament with a tough loss to Bowie State 762-465 after the Bulldogs swept the first four games. 
• Chowan recovered in the second round with a 755-736 victory over Elizabeth City. The Hawks and Vikings battled back and forth at each match before Chowan was able to secure the last two matches for the win. 
• Virginia Union bested Chowan in the third round 861-816 in a six match victory to bring the Hawks to the end of their 2018 season.
