Chowan Soccer Opens League Play Against Emmanuel

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's and Women's Soccer programs open the Conference Carolinas slate with their first ever league match against the visiting Emmanuel Lions on Saturday.  The Women will kick-off at 12pm with the men following at 2:30pm.

The Women will play on Sunday against Lincoln (Pa.) with kick-off at 12pm.

HAWKS PROFILE
Chowan opened the season last week in a non-conference match against Florida Southern in a neutral contest in Mount Olive, N.C.   The Hawks picked up a point with a scoreless draw against the Mocs.

Hawks' goalkeeper Olivia Borer was solid for Chowan in goal as she racked up 11 saves.  Borer was named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week for her efforts.  She earned the program's first ever Conference Carolinas season honors.

LIONS PROFILE

Emmanuel is coming off two wins to start the season.  The Lions defeated upstart program Shaw, 3-0, on Friday before defeating Georgia Southwestern 2-1 in a midweek contest.  The Lions went 2-14-2 last season.

LINCOLN PROFILE

Lincoln (Pa.) enters the contest with a 1-2-0 record.  The Lady Lions picked up a 3-1 win over Washington Adventist to open the season and has suffered back-to-back losses since.  Lincoln lost to Holy Family and Bloomfield the past week.

SERIES HISTORY/LAST MEETING

Chowan and Emmanuel are tied 1-1 in the series scoring one goal each.  Chowan picked up the win last season in a non-conference match.  Mackenzie Imamura scored the lone goal for the Hawks.  Emmanuel won during the meeting in 2009 as the Lions and Hawks meet in a NCCAA South Region Postseason contest.

Chowan and Lincoln (Pa.) are tied in the series, 6-6.  Chowan has outscored the Lions 13-1 over the past three meetings.  The Hawks won the two meetings last season 4-0 and 4-1.

MEN'S SOCCER

 
HAWKS PROFILE
Chowan is coming off a victory at home as the Hawks defeated defending National Champions, Wingate, in a non-conference midweek contest, 1-0.  The Hawks dominated possession throughout the match and had to battle the elements as the contest witnessed a lightening delay close to the half time whistle.

Terell Williamson scored the game-winning goal for the Hawks after entering the contest less than two minutes before the strike.  Elliot Chadderton registered four saves in the win and posted his first win for the Hawks in goal.

LIONS PROFILE

Emmanuel enters the contest with a 0-1-1 record to start league play.  The Lions tied upstart program Shaw, 1-1, to open the season.  The Lions would fall to Clayton State in a non-conference match over the weekend.

SERIES HISTORY/LAST MEETING

Chowan leads the series 3-1 winning the last three meetings.  Emmanuel won the first meeting in 2010 before Chowan the three match win streak.  The Hawks picked up a 2-0 victory last season at home.
