CU Men's Soccer Battles To Tie Against #14 Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Chowan Men's Soccer team battled back to pick up a double overtime draw against nationally ranked Limestone in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon, 1-1.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Limestone outpaced the Hawks with 18-9 shots and 6-3 shots on goal.  Despite the difference the Hawks kept the high powered Saints to one goal.

Lee Wattam tallied the equalizing goal for the Hawks.  Terell Williamson recorded the assist.

Elliot Chadderton notched five saves on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Half

Limestone posted three shots, two on goal, in the opening 15 minutes of action.  Elliot Chadderton notched a save on the first shot before the third shot found the back of the net for the Saints 1-0 lead.

Chowan responded later in the half as Terell Williamson's header sailed just high.  45 seconds later Williamson found the ball at his feet at the top of the box.  The senior slid the ball over to Lee Wattam finding the back of the net in the bottom corner for the equalizer in the 37'.

The Hawks and Saints went into the half knotted up at 1-all.

2nd Half

Josh Baker had a great look at the cage in the 55' but the attempt slammed off the crossbar.

The tide turned quickly in the 67' as Limestone was granted a penalty kick.  Ruairi Croskery lined up the PK but was denied as Elliot Chadderton came up with a huge save to keep the match level.

Chowan recorded two dangerous shots in the 72' as Lee Wattam's shot was saved and gave the Hawks a corner kick.  Off the corner, James Scott had his shot blocked and cleared out of danger.

The Saints searched for the go-ahead score in the 80' as the Limestone shot was initially blocked and a second shot was saved by Elliot Chadderton.

Possession in the final minutes of regulation bounced back and forth as the two teams moved towards overtime.

Overtime

Terell Williamson recorded the first shot in the overtime period as his header missed high.  Jeremy Brooker recorded the final shot of the first overtime period as the shot was blocked by a Saint's defender.

In the 105', Elliot Chadderton had a strong stand in goal as the shot from close range found the hands of Chadderton.

UP NEXT

The Hawks will take a step out of conference play to take on Concord at home on Wednesday, October 4.  Kick-off is at 3pm.
