SALISBURY, N.C. -The Chowan Men's and Women's Cross Country team kicked off their 2017 season at the Catawba College Chick-Fil-A Invitational on Saturday morning at Salisbury Community Park. The men finished with a ninth place finish, while the women took 13th overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the Men:
Chowan's Freshmen Jyrec McCray led the Hawks with an 35^th overall finish in a field of 102. McCray recorded a time of 30:25.2 averaging a 6:07 minute mile.

Kevin Taylor finished 46^th posting a 31:45.1 time while Jalen Thomas followed closely with a 47^th finish at 31:54.7.

Ghassan Alansi ran the course in 32:46.0 for the Hawks to secure 51^st overall.

George Kattan rounded out the scoring with a 61^st place finish completed the 8k in 34:40.3

For the Women:
Lela Knight paced the Hawks completing the 5k in 22:44.6, averaging a 7:18.8 minute mile.

Elizabeth Stokes finished 57^th overall for the Blue and White with a 25:58.3 time finish.

Raven Finley-Flowers also competed for Chowan posting a time of 28:05.0

Chasity Henderson and Kiona Purvis finished 80^th and 94^th respectively.

The Hawks will travel to Petersburg, Va. on Friday, September 8^th to compete in the VSU Fall Opener.
