HAWKS PROFILE
Chowan has posted back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in program history going 6-4 overall each of the last two seasons. Chowan, under the direction of 10th year head coach Tim Place, are looking to continue that streak this season.
The Hawks graduated four playmakers from the offense last season: Randall Dixon, Tyree Lee, Ryan Nolan, Tyrone Carter. With those holes to fill, the likes of Tyrell Freeman, Herman Dupas Jr., newcomer Bryce Witt, and Torry Baker will look to replicate their success.
The offensive line for the Hawks did not change much as Dale Russ, Darell Cherubin, Aaron Ray, Ethan Hindman, and Donte' Wooten will be in the trenches.
ABOUT THE BRONCOS
Fayetteville State got off to a slow start last season going 0-5 before turning their season around and finishing 4-6 overall. The Broncos return 2016 CIAA Offensive Rookie of the Year, Stevie Green, in the back field. Green rushed for 1150 yards and six scores in his freshman season. To add to their offense, the Broncos brought in graduate transfer Kane Banner from Duke University to call under center.
On the defensive side of the football, the Broncos present a front line that have Division I talent as three of the four transferred from South Carolina State, The Citadel, and Hampton University.
LAST MEETING
Chowan and Fayetteville State met on September 3, 2016 in Fayetteville, N.C. with the Hawks taking the contest 14-13. The Broncos out produced the Hawks 322-102 in total offense and held Chowan to -9 yards rushing.
Chowan won the turnover battle with four takeaways (two interceptions, two fumbles).
The Hawks took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter and extended their lead to 14-0 late in the third quarter on a Bronco turnover.
