GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Chowan Men's Soccer team was unable to keep pace with the Lander Bearcats, as Lander pulled away late in the second half on their way to a 5-2 victory.

Denis Roule and Lee Wattam found the back of the net for the Hawks.
James Scott tallied an assist from the back line.
Chowan was outshot 20-7 and 9-4 with on frame shots.
Elliot Chadderton picked up four saves in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lander showed the advantage early recording two dangerous shots in the 15th and 16th minute of action.  The Hawks would rally with a counter attack netting the first goal of the contest.  Denis Roule found the back of the net from the right wing and sending the shot to the far post for the early 1-0 advantage in the 18'.

The Bearcats took advantage of the Hawks' aggressive play finding the equalizer in the 23' on a penalty kick.  Keeper Elliot Chadderton choose the correct way but was unable to stop the shot as the ball found the right post.

Chowan continued to attack as James Scott sent in a pass to Lee Wattam.  Wattam volleyed the ball over his defender and sent a rocket into the far post from the right wing to give the Hawks the 2-1 lead just 2:04 later.

In the 35', Lander was able to find the equalizer yet again as the crossing header beat the keeper far post.  Chowan looked to respond quickly as Josh Baker ripped a shot from outside the box but Lander's keeper made a diving save to thwart the attack.

Chowan and Lander went into the half knotted at 2-all.

The Bearcats pushed their advantage to 5-2 in the second half scoring three unanswered goals.

Chowan will open their home slate on Wednesday, September 6 against defending national champion Wingate.  Kick-off is slated for 4:00 pm.
