Chowan Men's Soccer Shuts Out Crusaders On Senior Day

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Soccer team ended the regular season unbeaten at home as the Hawks shutout Belmont Abbey, 2-0, in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Chowan improves to 8-0-1 at home with the victory.

Josh Baker and Terell Williamson netted their sixth goals of the season in the victory.

Mike Dowling and Lee Wattam tallied an assist.

Elliot Chadderton recorded two saves in the shutout.  Chadderton and the Hawks have posted seven shutouts this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Half:

Barkan Koeprueluegil tallied the first shot attempt of the contest in the 18' but was saved by the Crusader keeper.

Belmont Abbey tallied their only two shots on goal in the 20' and 28' of play but was denied by Elliot Chadderton.

As time was winding down in the first half, Josh Baker received a through ball and was able to finish to the right post to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime whistle.

2nd Half:

Chowan jumped out on the attack in the early portion of the half as Denis Roule posted a shot high and another wide.  Carl Kennedy also recorded a shot but was unable to get the attempt on frame.

Belmont Abbey had chances in the 71' and 74' as the Crusaders recorded three corner kicks, but the Chowan defense cleared the ball out of danger.

The Hawks were granted a corner kick after Jamie McNicholas' shot was blocked.  Mike Dowling sent the corner in to Lee Wattam.  Wattam flicked the ball on to Terell Williamson finishing the set piece for his sixth goal of the season and gave the Hawks a 2-0 advantage in the 80'.

Chowan's defense kept the Crusaders at-bay for the remainder of the match as Belmont Abbey did not record a shot.

Chowan earns the number four seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament and will host either Mount Olive or Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday, October 31.  More details about the Conference Carolinas Tournament will be released when available.
