Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to the University of Charleston (WV) on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks move to 3-3 on the season with the setback while the Golden Eagles advance to 6-0 on the year. Charleston (WV) entered Saturday's contest as the No. 1 team in the NSCAA Coaches Poll.
Felipe Antonio put the Golden Eagles on the board late in the first half. In the 37
th minute of play, he found the back of the net on a shot far post. Lucas Santos was credited with the assist on the play. After heading into the halftime break with a narrow 1-0 edge, Charleston (WV) built on the momentum three minutes into the second half when Will Roberts sent the ball far post past Chowan's keeper, leaving the Hawks trailing 2-0.
In the 73
rd minute of play,
Denis Roule ended the scoring drought for Chowan with an unassisted goal. Less than one minute later, Antonio answered back for the Golden Eagles with a goal far post. Will Roberts was credited with the assist.
Carrying a 3-1 lead with just under two minutes left in the contest, Jermaine Windster's goal near post secured the 4-1 win for the Golden Eagles.
The University of Charleston (WV) recorded 28 shots in the win. Antonio led the way with eight shots on the day followed by Windster with four shots. Fabian Veit made one save in goal.
The Hawks were held to two shots over the course of the afternoon.
Mike Dowling and Roule both recorded one shot for the Chowan Blue and White.
Carlos Ramirez collected six saves in goal for Chowan.
The Hawks return to action on September 20
th as Chowan travels to take on Belmont Abbey. Game time is slated for 3:30pm.
