CARY, NC- The Chowan University women's cross country team competed in the HBCU Challenge as part of the Great American Cross Country Festival on Saturday morning.  The Hawks finished in 17^th place in the 17-team field with a team score of 411.  Hampton University took home first place team honors with a score of 37.  Darroneisha Lott of Coker College finished in first place in the 113 runner field with a winning time of 18:37. 

Ashley Tackett led the effort for the Hawks.  She finished in 40^th place individually with a time of 22:49.  Anna Makhneva followed with a time of 26:09, finishing 82^nd in the field.  Chasity Henderson and Kaila Hardin followed in 95^th and 96^th place, respectively.  Henderson posted a time of 29:42 with Hardin following just six seconds behind with a time of 29:48. 

Natalia Andrade rounded out the scoring for Chowan, trekking the 5k course in 30:14 and in 98^th place.  Rebeccah Noll also competed in the HBCU Challenge.  She crossed the finish line at the 34:07 mark in 104^th.

The Hawks return to action on October 7^th as Chowan travels to compete in the Blue Bear Invitational hosted by Livingstone College.
