LAURINBURG, NC - The Chowan University women's cross country team kicked off the 2015 season on Friday afternoon at the St. Andrew's Invitational. The Hawks finished in third place out of the four teams that competed in the 5k race.
Webber led the way on Friday, coming in first place with 32 points. Kathi Whitfield paced the Warriors after completing the course in 21:09. She also finished first place overall in the 22-runner field. The host team, the St. Andrew's Knights, finished in second place with 53 points.
Ashley Tackett had an impressive finish placing third overall and leading the effort for the Blue and White with a time of 21:55.
Jomecka Deloatch followed close behind with a time of 22:55 while
Natalia Andrade, in her first meet with the Hawks, trekked the course in 29:26. Also competing in their first meet with Chowan were
Chastity Henderson and
Kaila Harden who crossed the finish line in 29:51 and 36:28, respectively. The Hawks combined for a team score of 66 points.
Finishing in fourth place were the Salem Spirits with a team score of 73.
The Hawks travel to Salisbury, NC next Friday, September 4
th, to compete in the Catawba College Invitational.
