CHARLOTTE, NC- The Chowan University women's tennis team secured a spot in the CIAA semi-final match with a 5-0 win over Virginia Union University on Friday afternoon. The Hawks will take on Johnson C. Smith University at 9:00am on Saturday at Hornets' Nest Tennis Complex.
The Hawks advance with an 18-6 overall record while the Lady Panthers end their season 2-14 on the year.
Chowan rolled through Virginia Union in doubles play, earning victories in every position to grab an early 3-0 lead.
Natalya Kamenshchikova and
Victoria Smolchenkova teamed up for an 8-2 win over Logan Reid and Ellie Parsons in the number one position. Duos
Polina Novachuk and
Jessica De Backre and
Natalia Andrade and
Jennifer Humphrey trumped their opponents 8-0 in the second and third positions, respectively.
In singles action, De Backre defeated Christionne Taylor 6-0, 6-0 in the number four spot while
Natalia Andrade blanked Thyishia Hicks 6-0, 6-0 in the number five spot to secure the victory. The remaining singles matches remained unfinished .
