Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's soccer team fell 6-0 to the visiting Trojans of the University of Mount Olive on Tuesday afternoon. The contest was the final game of the season for the Hawks.
The Trojans tallied 28 shots in the contest with 18 on frame. Nichole Poppe led the way for Mount Olive with five shots in the victory while Christine Rocchio followed with four shots. Lauren Power, Mackenzie Reed and Maddy Robbak each had three shots apiece while eight other Trojans tallied at least one shot over the course of the competition.
The Hawks failed to record a shot on the afternoon.
Marissa Ghani made 12 saves in goal for the Chowan Blue and White while Stephanie McCoy earned the shut out win for Mount Olive.
Chowan held the Trojans to just one goal in the first period, but surrendered five goals after halftime before dropping the 6-0 decision.
Rocchio put Mount Olive on the board in the 30
th minute of play when she headed the ball into the back of the net behind Powers' corner kick.
After halftime, Poppe scored from the top of the box in the 55
th minute of play to push Mount Olive ahead 2-0. Beginning in the 65
th minute of the contest, three different Trojans found the back of the net over the course of five minutes to put the game out of reach.
With 45 seconds left in the game, Hannah Kirk solidified the 6-0 victory for Mount Olive when she scored on a breakaway.
The Trojans advance to 8-5-2 on the season with the victory. The Hawks end their season with a 1-12-2 overall record. Chowan returns to action in 2016.
