Box Score HARTSVILLE, SC- The Chowan University women's soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision to Coker College on Wednesday evening. The Hawks fall to 1-10-1 on the season after the setback while the Cobras improve to 4-7 after Wednesday's victory.
Anna Vig led the Cobras with a hat trick in the win. She scored one goal in the first period and two in the second to help secure the victory. Katie Cooper, Renee Ledesma and Ariana Tashijan each found the back of the net for Coker on Wednesday while
Samantha Persinger scored the lone goal for the Hawks in the contest.
Vig used Batavia Mata's feed in the eighth minute of play to give Cobra a 1-0 advantage. Unassisted goals by Tashjian and Ledesma in the 14
th and 15
th minutes, respectively pushed Coker ahead 3-0 early in the first period. Persinger responded for the Hawks just one minute later when she took advantage of a rebound to find the back for the net for the Chowan Blue and White.
After the halftime break, the Cobras notched three additional goals to put the game out of reach.
Coker tallied 25 shots in the contest led by Vig with nine shots and Ledesma with seven. Mata added three shots in the victory for Coker while Cooper, Tasjian and Autumn Fetterolf each added two shots in the win. Shelby Middleton made one save in goal for Coker.
The Hawks tallied two shots over the course of the competition. Persinger scored on her lone shot of the game while
Christine Chubb also tallied a shot on frame in the setback.
Marissa Ghani made 11 saves in goal for the Chowan Blue and White.
Chowan returns to action on October 14
th when the Hawks travel to Wilson, North Carolina to take on Barton College. Game time is slated for 5:00pm.
