MECHANICSVILLE, VA- The Chowan University women's cross country team kicked off the 2014 season on Friday afternoon at the Spider Alumni College Invitational. The Hawks finished in fourth place out of the four teams that competed in the two-mile race.
William and Mary led the way on Friday, coming in first place with 27 points. Carolyn Hennessey paced the Tribe after completing the course in 10:37. She also finished first place overall in the 26-runner field. The host team, the Richmond Spiders (29 points) and Christopher Newport Captains (83 points) finished in second and third place, respectively.
Crystal Louramore led the effort for the Blue and White with a time of 13:40.
Gerlisa Shipman followed close behind with a time of 14:13 while
Ashley Tackett trekked the course in 14:39.
Shanequa Blow finished fourth for Chowan after crossing the finish line in 16:53.
Stacy Seacat, in her first meet with the Hawks, rounded out the scoring for Chowan and completed the two-mile run in 19:01. The Hawks combined for a team score of 120 points.
The Hawks travel to Salisbury, NC next Friday to compete in the Catawba College Invitational.
