CARY, NC- The Chowan University women's cross country team finished in 12
th place at the HBCU Challenge on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks earned a team score of 299. Alabama State University finished in first place in the 16-team field with a team score of 26 while Hampton University (78) and Coker College (170) finished in second and third, respectively.
Jomecka Deloatch led the effort for the Hawks. She crossed the finish line in 22:34.7 and in 52
nd place overall.
Crystal Louramore completed the 5k course in 23:02.2, good for 59
th place in the 114 runner field.
Ashley Tackett and
Gerlisa Shipman earned 65
th and 66
th place finishes for the Blue and White. Tackett crossed the line at the 23:23.1 mark followed by Shipman at the 23.23.6
Shanequa Blow rounded out the scoring for the Blue and White. She trekked the course in 25:26.0, and in 87
th place overall.
Taylor McElroy also competed in the meet. She crossed the finish line in 28.57.5 and in 108
th place.
