Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The first half of Wednesday afternoon's contest featured two teams in fierce competition to capture their first win of the season. The Chowan University men's soccer team played neck and neck with Shepherd, but the visiting Rams snuck past the Hawks after netting four goals in the second half to earn the 4-0 victory.
Both teams battled to gain control in the first half. The Hawks matched the Rams nearly shot for shot, tallying 10 in comparison to 12 from Shepherd.
The second half was a different story. A corner kick by Ryan Byard in the 62
nd minute of the contest led to a goal by Fernand Feukeu to put the Rams on the board. Shepherd struck again two minutes later when Kyle Ransom fed a cross to Kevin Doyle at the top of the box resulting in a second goal for the Rams.
With a 2-0 lead in the 85
th minute of play, Lawrence Bass used Griffin Frazier's rebound off the far post to find the back of the net for Shepherd. Two minutes later, Frazier's header grazed against a Hawk player, resulting in an own goal to push the Rams ahead 4-0.
The Hawks were unable to overcome the deficit, and suffered the loss in the season home opener. Chowan keeper
Jax Eddleman had 13 saves in the contest and faced 18 shots on goal. David Leonard tallied four saves for Shepherd.
The Rams improve to 1-2 on the young season after Wednesday's win, and head to Charleston on Satruday to take on the Golden Eagles in a 7:00pm contest. Chowan moves to 0-2 on the year and will regroup on September 18
th in competition against Limestone. The contest is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm at Hawks Soccer Complex.
