Catawba Shuts Out Women's Soccer at Home

Box Score MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University women's soccer team dropped a 7-0 match to Catawba College on Wednesday afternoon. The Indians got off 37 shots and kept Chowan on the defensive side of the field for most of the match. The Hawks fall to 0-9 after the loss while Catawba improves their overall record to 4-4-1. 

Catawba struck just five minutes into the match when Mary Kirkman crossed a ball into Amy Iwanicki who took advantage of an open net for a 1-0 lead. Alex Hulsey and Kali Chaplin scored goals for Catawba to round out the first half of play.

The Indians went onto score four unanswered goals in the second half to take the 7-0 win. Kirkman ended the day with two goals scored and three assists. 

Moncia Hayward started in goal for Chowan but went down in the 17th minute with an injury. She had a save and allowed two scores. Tara Maready finished out in goal for the Hawks. She collected two saves and gave up five goals. 

The Hawks will play host to Salem College on Friday, October 4th at 4:00pm in their next outing.
