RICHMOND, VA – The Chowan University Bowling team had an impressive showing at the CIAA Northern Division Round-up this weekend. The Hawks finished with an 8-7 record for the three-day tournament, which was good for a tie for third place.
In match play, Chowan went 5-5, defeating Lincoln University (PA) and Virginia Union University twice apiece. They also knocked off Bowie State University, who owns a 24-6 overall record this season. In Baker format, Chowan went 3-2 with wins over Lincoln, VUU, and Virginia State University.
Lakeshia Simmons finished 11
th overall with a 155 average.
Sophia Mitchell was not far behind with a 151 average (13
th). Mitchell also recorded the two highest games for the Hawks, with a 210 and 190. Her 210 game was tied for sixth highest in the tournament.
With one CIAA North round-up remaining on the schedule, Chowan is currently in a tie for fourth place in the division with Virginia Union. Each squad owns a 12-20 overall record. Virginia Union does own the tie-breaker right now (total pin fall). The top four teams in each division will qualify for the CIAA Championships, held March 23

Chowan will return to action next weekend (Feb. 10
th-12
th) when they travel to Charlotte, NC for a CIAA (both divisions) Tournament.
