Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO – The Chowan Softball team split their second doubleheader in as many days after going 1-1 against Mercyhurst College on Sunday. The Lakers took game one 8-6, but the Hawks bounced back for a 9-6 victory in the nightcap. Chowan is now 2-8 on the season while Mercyhurst moves to 1-1.
In game one, Mercyhurst opened up an early 7-0 lead after their first two at-bats. Chowan responded in the bottom of the second, however, with five runs of their own to cut the lead to two runs.
Fahren Munro led the surge with a 2 RBI double.
Christie Wright again took the mound in game two, pitching all seven innings. She allowed only four hits while striking out seven. She had trouble in the third inning, when she gave up all six of her runs, but quickly bounced back to keep the Lakers off the board for the remainder of the game.
Chowan scored in four of their six offensive innings, including four in the 6
th to cap the comeback. They managed 14 hits, while only giving up 4 to the Lakers.
Allie Kolezynski and Mindy Bird each drove in two runs. Kolezynski also had a team high three hits in the game. Byrd and
Liz Hipple scored two runs apiece.
Liz Sill went 1-1 while getting hit by a pitch three times.
Chowan will take the diamond again on Friday when they host Mount Olive College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at noon.
