Hawks Place Eighth at First Ever CIAA Cross Country Championship

Gerlisa Shipman finished in 27th place on Thursday
CARY, NC – Competing in their first ever CIAA Championship, the Chowan University Cross Country team finished in eighth place, scoring 232 team points.  Twelve teams competed in the race.  The Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University took the championship with just 31 points.  They narrowly edged Virginia State University, who finished in second with 33 points.
 
Freshman Gerlisa Shipman led the Hawks with a 27th place finish, running the 5k course in 22:28.  Lacey Wildeboer came in 43rd place with a time of 23:24.  Stephany Powell trekked the course in 24:01 to finish in 49th place.
 
Krystle Shifflett ran her best time of the season, 27:27, finishing in 56th place.  Right behind her in 57th place was Shaneka Sawyer, who crossed the line in 27:33.  Angelica Satchell rounded out the Hawks with a time of 29:02, coming in 65th place.
 
Brittney Killebrew of Winston-Salem State University took the individual title with a 19:11. 
 
Chowan will take part in the NCAA Atlantic Regional meet on Saturday, November 5th, held in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.
