Raleigh, NC -- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association closed its 2009-10 school year on Tuesday by honoring this year's CIAA Coaches and Administrators of the Year at its annual awards program held at the Marriott Crabtree in Raleigh, NC. Chowan's Meredith Long was named the CIAA Senior Woman Administrator of the Year.
This event is held in conjunction with the CIAA's Spring General Assembly Meeting.
Long enters her 12th year as a Chowan University employee and currently serves as the Deputy Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator overseeing Athletic Communications and Operations. She oversees the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee on campus and helped initiate the NCAA's CHAMPS/Life Skills program in it's first year (2009). She also has sport oversight in volleyball, softball, and women's bowling.
Livingstone's Winnie Chepchumba and St. Augustine's Orolando Duffus were recognized as Scholar-Athletes of the Year
The winners of the C.W. Williams and Loretta Taylor All Sports Team Trophies were released as well. The All Sports Trophy winners are selected based on a point system that awards credit based on championship finishes and sports sponsored.
