Women's Tennis Drops Road Match at Virginia State

ETTRICK, VA - The women's team fell to 4-8 on the year after dropping a 9-0 decision at Virginia State University on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks were swept on both the singles and doubles sides after heading into the match with a two-match win streak.

Chowan dropped all three doubles matches with Kashae Beverly and Melinda Williams picking up the loss at the #1 doubles spot. They fell 8-0. Amanda Spaulding and Tara Lunney paired up for the #2 doubles match where they fell 8-1 and Jennifer Mitchell and Jena'y Nelson dropped the #3 doubles match 8-0.

Beverly anchored the #1 seeded singles match and lost in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 while Spaulding matched up with VSU's #2 singles opponent and fell 6-1, 6-0. Lunney lost the #3 singles match 6-2 and 6-1 while Williams fell in the fourth seeded match 6-1, 6-0. Mitchell and Nelson rounded out the singles play and fell with final scores of 6-4, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-0.

The Hawks will host Shaw University on Thursday for senior day, their final match of the 2009 season.
