PEMBROKE, NC - UNC-Pembroke used a two-out RBI single to win a marathon 11-inning game against the Hawks with a final score of 11-10. The Braves erased a 9-2 deficit to come back to beat the visiting Hawks. Chowan falls to 20-13 on the season after today's loss.
The game was knotted at 2-2 heading into the 6th inning when Chowan busted the tie with a seven-run at-bat. Matt Crane led the inning off with a double to right center field and two batters later Justin Bagbey drilled a two-run homer to take a 5-2 lead. The Hawks scored five more runs using two Braves' errors and four singles to take a 9-2 lead. The Braves chipped away at Chowan's lead scoring seven runs over the 6th and 8th, and 9th innings. Bryan Hill gave Chowan a 10-9 lead in the top of the 9th inning with a two out, solo homerun but the Braves answered in their next at-bat to knot the game and force extra innings. They won the game in the bottom of the 11th with a two-out RBI single.
The Hawks collected 14 hits in the game led by Jordan Whitlatch and Jake Badinelli who had three hits each. Bagbey finished up 2-5 with a homerun and Adam Capps also collected two hits.
Will Medlin started the game but got a no-decision after throwing 6.0 innings. He gave up eight hits and six runs. John Morris and Bryan Hill threw in relief but it was Tyler Chelenza who picked up the loss after giving up the winning run in the 11th inning.
The Hawks move to 20-13 on the season while UNC-Pembroke improves to 28-13 overall.
