Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The baseball team dropped a doubleheader this afternoon to Mount Olive College with final game scores of 25-1 and 14-3. The Hawks played their final games of the 2009 season and finished up with a 23-18 overall record. Mount Olive pounded out 26 hits while holding the Hawks to two hits in the first game and added 13 hits in the nightcap.
In the 25-1 loss the Hawks collected two hits, both game off the bat of Mike Taylor. Taylor provided the only run of the game when he hit a solo homerun in the 5th inning. Will Medlin picked up the loss on the mound after getting the start. Medlin (1-2) gave up seven runs and four hits in the loss. Spencer Fagan and Steve Humphrey saw time in relief of Medlin, giving up nine runs each. Tyler King closed the game out, throwing the final three innings and holding Mount Olive off the board.
Bryan Hill got the Hawks on the board in the nightcap in the bottom of the 5th inning when he homered to right field. Hill and Matt Crane both played in their final games of their Chowan playing careers today. The Hawks tallied six hits in the 14-3 nightcap loss with Hill going 1-2. Nate Mitchell was also 1-2 with a RBI in the loss. John Atkins tossed four innings in the loss, giving up nine hits and 10 runs.
The Hawks wrapped up their season play today with a 23-18 overall record. Mount Olive, last year's DII National Champs, move to 33-18 on the year after today's doublheader.
