Box Score 2 Box Scores vs. NC Wesleyan
MURFREESBORO - The softball team rolled to a doubleheader sweep of North Carolina Wesleyan Colleget this afternoon, winning with final game scores of 9-1 and 11-0. Today's wins moves Chowan to 27-19 on the season. Earlier in the day the Hawks found out that they would grab the top seed heading into this weekend's NCCAA South Region Tournament. The Hawks tallied 21 hits, including 12 hits in the nightcap, to take the doubleheader easily. Tricia Gorman (at left) was 5-7 at the plate today with three RBI and three doubles.
Chowan used a five-run third inning to jump on top of the Bishops 7-1. Jenna Lassiter's double in the bottom of the 6th inning game the Hawks the run they needed to end the game by the run-rule. The Hawks tallied nine hits with Lassiter getting two of them. Gorman had three doubles with two RBI while Brooke Owen was 1-2 with three RBI and one run scored. Shellie Wimpey pitched the win, tossing six innings and striking out five batters. Wimpey moves to 14-9 on the year after today's win.
The Hawks collected 12 hits in the 11-0 nightcap win. Mindy Byrd, Melissa Woodrum, and Lassiter were perfect at the plate after going 2-2 respectively. Woodrum knocked in three runs on two doubles. Gorman and Allie Kolezynski each had two hits in the win. Kolezynski picked up her 13th win on the mound after shutting out the Bishops over five innings. She gave up just two hits and struck out eight Bishop batters in the win.
Chowan will travel to play in the NCCAA South Region Tournament on Saturday. The tournament will be played in Franklin Springs, Georgia at Emmanuel College. Follow the Hawks at the tournament by logging on to www.gocuhawks.com.
