Box Score 2 Box Scores vs. Bowie State
MURFREESBORO - The softball team swept a doubleheader from Bowie State University this afternoon, winning with final scores of 8-4 and 4-1. Today's sweep moves the Hawks to 25-17 on the year. The Hawks recognized Shellie Wimpey and Jenna Lassiter playing in their final seasons in the Chowan Blue and White for senior day, and both were instrumental in today's wins.
The Hawks scored seven runs through their first two at-bats to jump out to an early 7-1 lead. They scored four runs to open the game utilizing three walks and three singles to get on top of the Bulldogs 4-1. Tricia Gorman drove in two of the Hawks' three runs in the second inning with a single to left center. Gorman ended the game 1-2 at the plate with three RBI. Jenna Lassiter drove in two runs in the game and finished up 2-3 at the plate. Allie Kolezynski was 3-4 on the day with a stolen base in the win. Senior Shellie Wimpey picked up her 13th win on the mound after throwing a complete game, giving up six hits and four runs, one of which was earned.
Chowan exploded for four runs in the bottom of the first inning of game two, giving them enough runs to take their 25th win of the season. Chowan tallied 10 hits as a team with Gorman, Lassiter, Kolezynski, and Brooke Owen all finishing with two hits. Kolezynski pitched the win, her 12th of the year. She gave up five hits and struck out one Bulldog batter as the Hawks rolled to a 4-1 win.
Chowan will travel to USC-Aiken tomorrow for a 3:00pm doubleheader before returning home to host North Carolina Wesleyan College on Tuesday afternoon in their final home game of the year.
