Box Score MURFREESBORO - The baseball team dropped a 10-7 decision to Millersville University in the first of a four-game series this afternoon. The Marauders scored four runs in the 8th inning to pass the Hawks and give them their fourth loss of the season.
Justin Bagbey got the scoring started when he led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo homerun to centerfield. They wouldn't hold the lead long as Millersville's Scott Slembecker hit a solo homerun to knot the game at 1-1 in the Marauder's next at-bat.
Millersville used a four-run 6th inning to get back on top of the Hawks 5-3 but Chowan took a 6-5 lead on their next at-bat. Cody Wile drove in Andrew Dotcherman with a single in the top of the 7th to even the score at 6-6. The Marauders busted the tie with a four-run 8th inning, taking advantage of five hits and one Chowan error. With one at-bat left, the Hawks attempted a comeback but scored just one run in their final at-bat. They fell with the eventual 10-7 score.
Chowan's Tyler King got the loss on the mound after coming in for relief of starter Chris Nelson. Nelson threw the first six innings, giving up five runs, seven hits, and striking out six batters. King gave up three runs on five hits to pick up the loss, his first of the season. Both Will Medlin and John Morris pitched in relief of King.
Andrew Hunt got the win for the Marauders, throwing the final 3.2 innings, giving up three hits and two runs. The Hawks tallied 12 hits with five players getting multiple hits. Jordan Whitlach was 2-4 at the palte with an RBI and a run scored. Bagbey was 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Zac Caito John Kellett and Matt Crane each added two hits in the loss.
The Hawks will host the Marauders in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at 12:00pm. Chowan moves to 8-4 on the year while Millersvilles evens their overall record at 6-6 after today's come from behind win.
