Women's Tennis Drops Road Match to ECSU

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The women's tennis team fell to 2-6 on the season after dropping a road match to the Elizabeth City State University with a final match score of 9-0.

After dropping the first three match points in doubles play, the Hawks were unable to comeback from the deficit. Kashae Beverly anchored the #1 seed for Chowan followed by Amanda Spaulding and Tara Lunney as the #2 and #3 seeds, respectively. Beverly fought but fell short in the three-set match, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8, to Christina McLean. Spaudling lost to Krystyan Fleming by the final score, 6-0, 6-3. Lunney dropped her match to April Whitaker, 6-0, 6-1. Melinda Williams represented the #4 seed but lost to Tiffany Brown by the final score, 6-2, 6-2. Jennifer Mitchell and Brittney Johnson rounded out the #5 and #6 seeds. Mitchell fell to Lauren Lee, 6-2, 6-3. Phyllis King defeated Johnson, 6-2, 6-3.

The Hawks will host St. Pauls College tomorrow at the Chowan University Tennis Complex. Match time is set for 1:00pm.
