MURFREESBORO - Former Chowan University football coach, Lou Saban, passed away early Sunday morning after fighting health issues. The well-traveled and well-known coach brought national media attention to Chowan's campus during his one and half year coaching stint. Saban was 87 years old. He served as a coach head coach of the then Braves football squad for half a season in 2001 and a full season in 2002. He led the team to a a 2-13 record during his time at Chowan.
He took over the team halfway through the 2001 season where he guided the team to a 2-3 record. The following season the team went winless at 0-10.
