MURFREESBORO - Chowan's pitchers held Elizabeth City State University to three hits over 10 innings while pounding out 22 hits of their own on the way to a doubleheader sweep. The Hawks won with final game scores of 10-1 and 11-1. Today's doubleheader wins make it six wins in a row as they improve to 22-14 on the year.
Chowan tallied 12 hits as a team in the 10-1 win with Brooke Owen and Allie Kolezynski getting three hits each. Tricia Gorman and Melissa Woodrum had triples in the win with Gorman getting two RBI and Woodrum getting one RBI. Shellie Wimpey improved to 11-7 on the mound after the win. The senior threw five innings, giving up just one hit and striking out seven Viking batters.
Game two was much the same as the first won as Chowan rolled to an 11-1 win. Kolezynski gave up two hits and struck out eight batters for her 11th win of the season. Woodrum was 3-3 at the palte with four RBI while Alex Allen tallied three RBI on three hits. Megan Bass was 2-3 with two runs scored and a double in the win.
The Hawks will take off until March 31st when they host UNC-Pembroke in a doubleheader. Game time is set for 2:00pm.
