Hawks Take Two From Limestone, Gorman's Double Lifts Hawks in Game One

MURFREESBORO - The softball team improved to 18-14 after a doubleheader sweep of Limestone College this afternoon. The Hawks won with game scores of 4-3 and 3-2. Tricia Gorman (at left) drove in two runs with a double in the bottom of the 7th inning to help propel the Hawks to the first game win.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning the Hawks battled from behind to take the 4-3 win. Alex Allen led the inning off with a free base after getting hit by a pitch. Brooke Owen laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Allen to second and took advantage of a throwing error by Limestone. Allen advanced to third on the error and in the next at-bat Owen stole second. With runners at second and third and one out, Gorman stepped to the plate and belted a double to right center field to score Allen and Owen and take the game 4-3.

Chowan had five hits in the game with Gorman grabbing the only multiple hit outing at 2-3. Shellie Wimpey picked up the win on the mound and moved to 8-3 overall. Wimpey tossed a complete game, giving up five hits and three runs while striking out three batters.

Allie Kolezynski hled Limestone to five hits in the game two for the win. The freshman struck out three batters in the win. Chowan scored two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to take the lead and eventual 3-2 win. Jenna Lassiter was 3-3 with an RBI while Mindy Byrd and Kaytee McLaughlin had two hits each in the win.

The Hawks improve to 18-14 overall on the year. They will travel to Barton College on Tuesday in their next outing.
