SALISBURY, NC - Chowan's Jonathan Walker picked up a singles win against Catawba College, but the men's tennis team fell with a final match score of 8-1. Saturday's loss moves the Hawks to 2-6 on the year.
Darik Gilman battled but dropped the #1 singles match 4-6, 6-0 (10-3). Gilman falls to 1-7 overall after the loss. Raitis Abolins fell to 2-5 overall after dropping the #2 singles match 6-4, 6-2. He paired up with Ira Coates where they dropped the #3 doubles match 8-6.
Walker beat his opponent handedly 6-1, 6-2 in the #3 singles match. Walker and Gilman lost the #1 doubles match 8-5. Mike Fencil battled in his #4 singles match but fell with a final match score 6-4 and 7-6. Adam Moneypenny fell 6-4, 6-0 and Ira Coates fell 6-0, 6-0 in the 5th and 6th seeded singles matches respectively.
The Hawks dropped to 2-6 after the loss. They will hit the court again Sunday as they travel to East Carolina University.
