Baseball Blows by Virginia State for 13th win of the Season

MURFREESBORO – The Hawks blew by Virginia State University in a doubleheader this afternoon with final scores of 15-3 and 21-7. With today's wins the Hawks improve to 13-10 on the year and have won their last four outings. Freshman Justin Bagbey (at left) becomes new homerun record holder in a season.
Chowan pounded out 12 hits in the first game as the Hawks rolled to a 15-3 win. Chris Nelson pitched the win after throwing 3.0 innings on the mound. Nelson struck out four batters and gave up three hits and two earned runs. Nelson got plenty of run support as the Hawks opened up with a five-run first inning, capped off with a three run homer by Mike Taylor. They went on to score seven runs over their next two at-bats and added  three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Taylor and John Kellett had five RBI in the win. Kellett was 3-5 at the plate while Justin Bagbey was 3-4 with two RBI. Taylor finished the game with a homerun and a triple.
Austin Eubanks picked up the second game win after throwing five innings, giving up 13 hits and secen runs while striking out four batters. Spencer Fagan closed the game out with the final two innings, giving up one hit in eight batters faced.
Chowan tallied 15 hits in the game with freshman Justin Bagbey became the new season record holder for homeruns after getting two in the second game. Bagbey has belted out 11 homeruns this season to break the 12 year old standing record. Taylor had a three run homerun and was 3-4 while Robert Weaver was 3-4 with four RBI.  Jake Badinelli had three hits in four at-bats with a two RBI in the Hawks' 13th win of the season.
Chowan will host St. Andrews College on Wednesday in their next outing. Game time is set for 1:00pm for the doubleheader.
