GREENVILLE, NC- The men's tennis team falls to 2-7 on the season after dropping a road match to East Carolina University by the final match score, 0-9.
Trailing 3-0 after doubles play, the Hawks were unable to rally from the deficit. Darick Gilman anchored the #1 seed, but lost in straight sets to Stephen Whitwell, 6-1, 6-0. Raitis Abolins and Jonathan Walker represented the #2 and #3 seeds, respectively. Abolins was defeated in straight sets by Denis Ermilov to the final score. 6-1, 6-1. Walker lost to Henrik Skalmerud by the final score, 6-1, 6-1. Mike Fencil, Adam Moneypenny, and Ira Coats rounded out the #4, #5, and #6 seeds. Fencil was defeated by Aleksey Kochetov, 6-1, 6-0. Moneypenny lost to Dave Mascronini by the final score, 6-1, 6-1, followed by Ira Coats losing to Ryan Daly in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
The Hawks will host St. Paul's College this Friday. Match is 2:00pm. Then, Chowan will host Virginia State University the next day. Match is 1:00pm.
