Softball Splits at Lees McRae, Win First but Drop Second Game

BANNER ELK, NC - The softball team split a doubleheader this afternoon at Lees McRae College, winning the first game 13-3 and dropping the second 2-1. The Hawks pounded out 11 hits to take the first game in five innings but made two costly errors in the nightcap to give the Bobcats two unearned runs and a 2-1 win. Allie Kolezynski had (at left) had five RBI to help propel her team to the first game victory.

The Hawks scored in their first four at-bats in the first game, highlighted with a five-run third inning.  Allie Kolezynski had five RBI on a 2-3 performance at the plate. The freshman had a two run double and a two run single along with a sacrifice fly in the win. Both Tricia Gorman and Brooke Owen had hits in the win. Shellie Wimpey pitched the win, giving up two earned runs and striking out four batters.

The Hawks suffered a close 2-1 loss in the nightcap. Both Bobcats runs were unearned but Kolezynski got the loss after coming in for relief of Wimpey, who started the game and threw 2.0 innings. Kolezynski scattered five hits and struck out four batters in four innings of work but got the loss on the mound. Gorman and Allie Hunka each had two hits in the loss.

Chowan will play Queens University tomorrow at 1:00pm and then come home to host Limestone College on Sunday afternoon. That game will start at 1:00pm.
