Hawks Hold Bears Hitless toTake Two

Kolezynski and Wimpey pitched no-hitter

MURFREESBORO- The softball team swept Shaw University today and improved to 15-7on the season. Senior Shellie Wimpey and Freshman Allie Kolezynski pitched a no-hitter. Chowan scored a combined 28 runs in the two games. The Hawks allowed one run in the first game but rallied to score 14 unanswered runs to win 14-1. The second game Chowan blanked the Bears and won by the final score, 14-0.

The Hawks scored seven runs in the first inning. Junior Melissa Woodrum started the Hawks' rally by hitting a single through the left side to score Kolezynski to tie the game, 1-1. Chowan scored two more runs to take a 3-1 lead. Bases loaded with one out, Junior Jenna Lassiter hit an inside the park homerun down the right-field line in the corner to bring in herself, Megan Bass, Allie Hunka, and Alex Allen. The Hawks scored a combined seven more runs in the second and third innings combined. Wimpey pitched a no-hitter, allowed one unearned run, and struck out 10 batters.

In the second game, Chowan again jumped out to an early lead. The Hawks scored four runs in the first inning followed by five in the second. Chowan finished the game scoring 14 runs total while the Bears were held hitless. Kolezynski went 2-3 at the plate with four RBIs. In addition, Kolezynski pitched a no-hitter, allowed no runs, and struck out eight Bears. Sophomore Tricia Gorman and Junior Kaytee McLaughlin each had two hits and two RBIs in the game.
