Box Score TIGERVILLE, SC - Emmanuel College erased a 17 point second half deficit to come from behind to beat Chowan 95-92 in the NCCAA South Region Championship game tonight. The final two minutes of the game featured two ties and two leads changes but it was the Lions who would come out on top tonight. Senior Aaron Scott posted 32 points in the game on an 11-21 shooting performance.
Chowan took a 50-40 halftime lead and got up by as many as 17 points in the second half. Emmanuel mounted a comeback over the final 16:00 minutes of play to cut into the Hawks' lead. With the game knotted at 90-90 and :53 to go in the game, Emmanuel's Shawn Courtney hit a lay-up to take a 92-90 lead over the Hawks. Charles Rhodes took advantage of of an Emmanuel technical foul and drained 2-2 from the foul line to even the score at 92-92 with :21 to play in the game. Emmanuel took the lead after hitting 1-2 from the foul line after a quick foul by the Hawks but Ben Brim's lay-up with :03 to play put the Lions up 95-92 and gave them the eventual win over the Hawks.
Scott drained 32 points while Jaleel Nelson scored 23 points and was perfect from the floor 7-7 and 3-3 from beyond the three point arch. Lando Morrison added 14 points and 10 boards while Mark Brown chipped in 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
The Hawks finish up 18-10 on the year. Emmanuel College will move on to play in the NCCAA Nationals in Oakland City, Indiana next week.
