Softball Picks up Two at Fayetteville State

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Hawks improved to 5-1 overall after sweeping Fayetteville State University in a doubleheader this afternoon. Chowan tallied 26 hits over the two games to help propel them to the victories.

Chowan won the first game 9-1 in six innings and knocked out 11 hits as a team. Shellie Wimpey picked up her second win of the season after tossing all six innings, scattering five hits and striking out six Bronco batters. Megan Bass was perfect at the plate at 3-3 while Brooke Owen was 3-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Allie Kolezynski had two hits, three runs scored, and two stolen bases in the win.

The Hawks had a season-high 15 hits in the second game, winning with a final score fo 10-8. Kolezynski moves to 3-0 on the mound after throwing a complete game. She gave up eight hits, eight runs, and struck out seven batters. Owen continued with her hot bat in the nightcap after going 3-5 with three RBI. Tricia Gorman was 3-4 at the plate with two runs while Alex Allen, Melissa Woodrum, and Bass all collected two hits.

The Hawks have played six games in three days. They will take off until Saturday when they travel to Due West, South Carolina to play Erskine College. Game time is set for 1:30pm.
